Livadi is the birth town of the Greek armatolos and noted for his activities with the Filiki Eteria Giorgakis Olympios. It is built in the sides of Mount Titaros in 1.200m of altitude. Its orientation is towards the south and west as far as Pindus mountain range. On the northeast side are the Pierian Mountains, on the east side of Olympus and southwest of Elassona, Chasia, Sarantaporo, Mount Sapka and Servia of Kozani. It preserves its picturesque beauty and its traditions, which origin from the Vlachs.
During the 50s and before, Livadi was one of the most important touristic resorts of Thessaly and Macedonia, known for its healthy climate and the purity of its products.
Today, visitors may admire Livadi, its cobbled streets, the centenarian plane tree and the spring with the crystal clear water in the central square. They also have the opportunity to visit the house of Giorgakis Olympios, which nowadays operates as a museum. They may also meet a farrier or a shoemaker, who still manages to preserve their art. Having a 10.000 acre extent and being surrounded by a virgin beechwood, the Mount Sapka amazes the visitors during the summer or the winter. Stournaria is another magnificent area, close to Chaidari, where one can admire the tall beeches, excellent water, variant vegetation and dreamy glades. Polezos and Saltsi are also two marvelous resorts, suggested for unique walks and entertainment.
The intense religious tradition of the residents of Livadi has blessed the village and the wide area with churches, small churches and monasteries, most of which are real protected monuments and are connected to important historical moments of our nation. The church of Saint –Charalampos in the area of Aghia Triada, the monastery of Aghia Triada in Livadi, which has been preserved until today, had been one of the most famous Secret Schools of the country. Moreover, the recent archaeological findings in Kastri, that is the Christian church and the famous mosaic, reveal that the Christian worship activities of the locals date back in the early period of the Byzantine Empire.
Apart from the religious activities, the tradition of the community is also characterized by the folk traditions, the folk activities (ntouphes. Mpampaliouria, carnival lights, tsipouro), the songs and the dances, the tails, the art, the curved templon of the churches, as well as the so – called “Cultural August”, when lots of events are being organized.
Nowadays, visitors mainly stay in the hotels “Kioski”, “Lanari” and “Antonios”.
The most important is that this world, that marries tradition with modern life and its demands, still exists and gives to the community a unique and special profile of the real escape from everyday routine.
