We take the road to the historic village of Metaxochori at an altitude of 200 m. It is one of the most beautiful villages of the area, with many traditional houses, most of them mansions, with rich history and tradition, as it had, in the past, developed the artisanship of silk, as its name denotes (metaxi=silk).
We follow the route to the north, constituting part of the national path O2, uniting Pelion to Kissavos and Olympus. The route is easy, rich in vegetation and passes through the cobbled street to the forest path, well signalled and adequate for all ages.
A short stop for rest and snack and we start the tour by visiting an ecclesiastical and then a folklore-historical museum. Visitors will admire the beautiful picturesque square, the stone bridge and cobbled streets, the historic churches of the village.
We return by the same path to Metaxochori. Going downhill next to the stream and following the picturesque streets of the village we will make a last stop at a old house where there is an attempt to revive the sericulture (silkworm breeding) a profession which in the past was inextricably linked to Metaxochori!
Admiring the stone-built mansions that dominate the village, we complete the excursion!
See you again, beautiful Kissavos!
